Mesh protects the tree without enclosing it. Air moves freely around the stem and canopy, the tree is fully visible for inspection, and light-demanding species are not shaded by a solid wall. On grant-funded, forestry and biodiversity net gain schemes with monitoring obligations, being able to see and assess every tree without dismantling its protection is a practical advantage over the life of the scheme.
Combining that with the bio material suits exactly the schemes it is most often specified on: forestry, farm woodland, woodland creation, rewilding, grants and BNG. These are typically large-area, lower-intensity plantings where sending a team back across the site to retrieve guards is difficult to cost and easy to defer. The bio mesh gives 3+ years of functional protection and then breaks down over a further 3+ years in suitable soil conditions, leaving water, biomass and minerals with no microplastic residue.
The guard is 130mm diameter with a 10×10mm aperture, supplied in bundles of 50 with biodegradable cable ties. Specify the height against browsing pressure: 60cm for rabbits and hares, 1.2m for roe deer, 1.5m to 1.8m for fallow, sika and red deer.
