About the Vigilis Bio Tree Shelter
The Vigilis Bio Tree Shelter delivers the performance of a conventional twin-walled tree shelter without the long-term plastic waste. It is manufactured from a bio-based polymer derived from potatoes, wood and corn, and after its functional life it breaks down in soil conditions to water, biomass and minerals, leaving no microplastic residue.

The product has been developed and independently tested through the UK's largest biodegradable tree shelter field trial, supported by more than £360,000 of Innovate UK R&D funding. It is tested to ISO 17556 for soil biodegradability and EN 13432 for non-toxicity to soil. It gives 3+ years of functional mechanical protection through the critical establishment period, and then biodegrades over a further 3+ years in suitable soil conditions.
That matters most where retrieval is the real cost. On woodland creation, rewilding, conservation and biodiversity net gain schemes — and on any site where access for a later collection visit is difficult — the bio range removes the retrieval labour and disposal cost entirely. It is increasingly specified where planning conditions or grant funding call for plastic-free protection.
The twin-wall construction and integrated laser line match the standard range, as do the heights and stem ranges, so a scheme can be specified in bio without changing anything else. Fixings are supplied as non-releasable biodegradable cable ties so that the whole assembly breaks down together.
