About the Vigilis Mesh Guard
The Vigilis Mesh Guard protects the tree without enclosing it. Where a solid twin-wall tube creates a warm, humid microclimate, a mesh guard leaves the tree in ambient conditions with free air movement around the stem and canopy.

That is the right call in three situations. For light-demanding species, the shading inside a solid tube is a genuine constraint on growth. Where trees need to be inspected — on grant-funded or biodiversity net gain schemes with monitoring obligations — a mesh guard lets the whole plant be seen and assessed without dismantling anything. And on sites where trees are expected to develop a naturally tapered, wind-firm stem rather than being drawn up inside a tube, mesh gives protection without that trade-off.
The guard is extruded mesh with selvedge edges, at 130mm diameter with a 10×10mm aperture — small enough to exclude browsing animals, open enough not to restrict light or air. It is supplied in bundles of 50 with cable ties. Specify the height against the browsing pressure exactly as for shelters: 60cm for rabbits and hares, 1.2m for roe deer, and 1.5m to 1.8m where fallow, sika or red deer are present. Where voles are also present, fit a vole guard at the base inside the mesh.
