Hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, dogwood and guelder rose do not belong in a narrow tree tube. At 130–160mm as standard, and 160–200mm in the XL version, the shrub shelter lets the plant keep its natural multi-stemmed form while still excluding rabbits and hares through the establishment years.
Hedgerow planting is also where end-of-life retrieval is at its most painful. Once a new hedge has closed up, extracting shelters from the line is slow and awkward, and in practice it frequently gets deferred indefinitely. The bio version removes the question: 3+ years of functional protection, then breakdown over a further 3+ years in suitable soil conditions to water, biomass and minerals, with no microplastic residue and nobody sent back to the site.
Specify 60cm for rabbits and 75cm where hares are present, and the XL diameter for larger or particularly bushy transplants. Fixings are non-releasable biodegradable cable ties so the whole assembly breaks down together.
